Things I Remember

Things I Remember

Sunshine holidays, Ice cream cones
Blackened eyes, broken bones Mum’s perfume, raised voices Covering my ears, difficult choices
Sibling rivalry, son against son Watching a marriage come undone
Belt strap kisses love expressed with punches
Apology flowers given in bunches Wrists being cut behind a closed door
Her husband, her lover naming her as a whore
Things I remember from my childhood years
Limited smiles and to many tears
