This is the price I pay

This is the price I pay

Death is the invoice for the life we live
A sum of all experiences, thoughts and feelings we breathe.

The small choices we make in the haberdashery of life,
shape our own destiny and yet can be the cause of our troubles and strife.

What is inevitable if we want to defer when we pay
Is that we attempt to avoid our fate, to live a good life in every way.

To live a good life in our eyes we trust
Whose to say whats wrong, whats right, why all the fuss.

Decisions of the day made in our youth
With the wisdom of hindsight, we know the truth.

As we get older we reflect and say
Did I live a life of integrity or wanton dismay.

For all that matters is an understanding of the price you pay
When death comes a-knockin this is what I will say.

I lived my life mocked all who scorned,
Learned to love, and not waste time feeling forlorn.

Lived my life fast without a care in the world,
Embraced all that is good with everyday gratitude.

So as I pledge my allegiance to the activities I must,
With the understanding, my priorities and time meet at a cusp.

Never enough always ticking away
I understand now this is the price I pay.
