Thoughts at Christmas
Think of the folks at ChristmasÂ
The ones who can’t affordÂ
A thought for the old in a cold roomÂ
Wishing they lived abroadÂ
 They’ll wrap themselves in jumpersÂ
They’ve knitted through the year
Just to keep themselves from freezingÂ
They’ll shed a frosted tear
 Think also of the homelessÂ
The ones who’ve lost it allÂ
Who may have once stood proud in societyÂ
Then took a financial fall
  Don’t ever forget the childrenÂ
Who always give a smileÂ
But, behind closed doors, a different worldÂ
Maybe cruel or vile
Maybe they’ll wake on Christmas DayÂ
And not a present in sightÂ
Think of them or pray for them
To end their sadness plightÂ
This poem could go on foreverÂ
As good fortune don’t always last
One day,I hope for humanity’s sakeÂ
Sad sorrow is a thing of the pastÂ

I’ve not written anything in a while, then this came to mind.
Times are hard enough as it is but,the screw always seems to get tighter at this time of year.
