To Olena Ivanivna Teliha

By Yiyan Han (c) 2023-07-21
Today is the birthday of Olena Ivanivna Teliha, a famous Ukrainian poet and a member of nationalist resistance during WWII, who was executed by the Gestapo in Babi Yar, Kyiv, in 1942.
In the dark days you were the sun ray
Pen was your best weapon to fight
Against Nazi Germany
When it invaded your country
In the bitter days the warm shining light Litavry
Words were like bullets towards the enemy
When the arrest was planned by Gestapo
You chose not to run but stay
You still are a bright immortal torch today
In Ukraine when invaded by Russia tyranny
Freedom and independence never free
Must be bravely defended you showed the way
Died at 35 Teliha the beautiful
You forever young Olena the noble

You have kept this honourable woman's memory and her past alive and well to thrive in the here and now of today Yiyan.
Respect and admiration for doing so and so well mirrored in well written and thoughtful verse.
Thank you.
Full honours and respect to for you for making a difference and doing so.
Revisiting and rereading Yiyan and thank you once more.
And a woman of stoic substance fighting oppression all around her and people shouldn't forget Olena Ivanivna Teliha made the ultimate sacrifice so others could live on.Β

Thank you, Shaun, for your revisit and I've been honoured.
Keeping watching some excellent WWII films made in Britain, and, yes, we should all keep our heroes live in memory for generations to come.
As far as I'm concerned, the world is already at WWIII. One obvious example is what has been happening in Ukraine, no mention some of other places all over the world.
Salute Great Britain and US that stands on the right side of humanity!
Regards,
Yiyan
