To Someone Sweet

To Someone Sweet

He was like honey to you;

You were like sugar to him,

But honey tastes no sweeter

After you mix the sugar in.

You see, dear, that was the problemβ€”

Both were sickeningly too sweet,

And neither one offered the balance

Of which the other was in need.

See, when you add sugar to honey,

There is no change in the taste,

And the sugar that may have been useful

Is now nothing, except a waste.

My dear, never pour yourself into

A man who does not need your love,

Or you'll end up like sugar in honey:

Unnecessarily wasted, and stuck.

So keep your sweet, savory sugar,

Until it is desperately needed

By a man who is nothing like honey,

But rather a latte, unsweetened.
