Poem -

TODAY

Today was not like any other Tuesday,
someone came and said: 'Do you know that you killed him?'
It was a hit and run - my fault when said and done,Β
the guy standing at the door happened to be my son.

I hadn't seen him since he was a small boy,Β
he'd come back to haunt me, like a discarded toy;
we sat down, he was tall and fair like his mother,
there were many things that we had to tell each other.

I'd thought of the questions and answers for years,
now some silence began to confirm all my fears;
there was the money - none of it was very funny,
that's what's needed in the land of bread and honey.

We can say that it all happened a long time ago,
maybe I was just not mature enough to say 'no.'
