Treachery of the Cute Persuasion

I had always known she was that kind of girl,
the kind who looks all sweet and innocent,
then pulls something mischievous out of her hat.
I should have seen it coming that day,
her birthday, when I promised I would do whatever she wanted,
I was a little wary making that promise.
But, for the moment, she seemed to not know what I feared.
Her request was simple enough, I didn't see the twinkle in her eyes.
She wanted me to help her play the piano.
I agreed, although I did warn her about my horrible playing.
She just laughed it off and said we could learn together.
So we went to the music room during break,
and I pulled out the bench for her.
She dragged me down beside her,
insisting she needed my help.
She looped her arm around mine,
and demanded I started playing.
And I did, I tried my best.
My self-taught self couldn't really do much,
but I found a tune I knew and started.
She watched me intently, her gaze unfaltering,
as my finger slowly stumbled across the keys.
She didn't comment when I forgot things,
or hit the wrong keys by accident,
butchering the set.
She just sat there and watched, eyes smiling.
When I was finished, she demanded I show her how,
how the song went, how to play.
I honestly made an effort,
but, for some mysterious reason,
she would always mess up one thing,
subtly, so that it would only bother me.
At first I ignored it. I would teach her better until she stopped doing it.
However, even after I specifically mentioned it,
she smiled and did it again, this time, louder.
I then realized I'd been tricked.
I exhaled through my nose before my hands left the piano.
One arm went around her as If for a hug.
She didn't see it coming as I leaned in close,
my lips brushing her ears.
"Nice Try." And I attacked.
She just started laughing uncontrollably,
melting under my hands as she convulsed.
I knew her one weakness; and exploited it masterfully.
A minute or so later, a teacher came in to see what was happening,
and I had to stop tickling and straighten her in her seat,
hair wild, eyes bright, clothes ruffled.
Honestly, I don't think I want to know what that Teacher thought.
After the door shut, she faced me and smiled bright.
"Do you blame me for trying?" I frowned and teasingly poked her in the side,
she laughed once, catching my hand in hers.
"You're so dumb, sometimes, you know that?"
Her eyes held mine for a moment longer, the humor melting away,
until only and empty calm remained, a tender glance.
"I just wanted you to spend the day with me." I laughed.
I leaned in again and kissed her cheek,
which crinkled in her small smile.
"You could have just asked." She laughed again before staring up at me.
"And where would the fun be in that?"
We spent the rest of the day there,
Ignoring when the bells rang and told us we had to go,
We just played together, her and I,
until the end of time.
