Turkish Delight

Turkish Delight

From Istanbul to Bodrum they gave you the 'come on,'
those sweeties in pink and lemon been good so long,
always in the Xmas selection with Meltis fruits, choc ginger,
Black Magic, marzipan, all of those to make you linger.

The caster sugar was like Yardley talcum powder,
fine grains used to embed themselves with wonder,
in the fibres of my fancy midnight blue mohair suit,
the signature of another sweet score was kinda cute.

Mother used to prod the jelly cubes until transferred,
as tho' she was really the one to have the last word -
about whether pink or lemon, rolled eyes heavenwards,
clicked her tongue as cubes went backwards and forwards.

It's a shame when you can no longer eat them anymore,
with your condition, they won't let you thro' the sweet shop door.
