Turn Around

Ten little fingers, ten little toes,
Chipmunk cheeks and a button nose.
Turn around and what do I see,
My baby girl just turned three.
Playing dress-up, tenacious flaxen curls
Little ballerina dressed in pearls.
"Swing me higher mommy, I want to touch the sky,
It's so blue mommy, why mommy why."
Full of questions, so eager to know,
Weren't you just a baby a little while ago.
A few gray hairs. each and every one,
All the little tumbles and bruises done.
Happy birthday baby, you just turned ten,
Such a big girl, where have I been?
Turn around and what do I see,
A young woman looking back at me.
Off you go to fulfill your dreams
So far away, letting goΒ isn't easy as it seems.
All grown up with that stubborn little curl
But to me you'll always be my baby girl.
