Twisted Bond

You swept me up as I shattered
Denied me sweet relief
So badly worn and tattered
fragile as a winter's leaf
You pushed me through thicket
though I fought you all the way
You made me take the ticket
though I refused to pay
Darkness came to devour
my rotted hollow heart
My soul had become so sour
My mind had been torn apart
You walked me through hell on a leash
threaded through that empty hole
dragged me along on a wire
Stitched to my darkened soul
An eternity crawled by slowly
Mile by agonizing mile
As my screams of pain died down
You looked back at me to smile
My throat began to close
dried out by the flame
when I heard your gentle voice
calling out my name
Darkness briefly closed in
around my heavy head
I no longer felt anything
and wondered if I was dead
Again I heard you calling
as cool water touched my lip
You nurtured me and heald me
and assisted every sip
You whispered that it was all over
You were proud and I had done well
I had kept walking, my head held high
through the darkest parts of hell
In my weakest moment
frightened, but not alone
I found a strength inside me
that I had never before known
In that moment of agony
My entire soul had been revealed
In your arms I suffered
And in your arms I healed
I'd rather be on your leash
in this twisted bond
Than to fall into a fragile love
That can never be depended on
