Undesirable People Through Time
"Those people...well they're not people at all".
-J Boyne, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas.
Save the 8th.
"How could they have done this?" we wonder now,
In relation to the Sho'ah,
And yet the view is increasingly demonstrated
Â
That innocent and defenceless babies
LIVING in the womb
Have lives which can be simply ended.
A baby's first year could be spent in a Moses basket,
They say: Don't end a precious life: (Commandment no.6)
And unwanted babies can always be adopted:Â
Brought up by another man and wife.
Over time you can see
the pattern repeated:
DEHUMANIZE and then DEGRADE
Then it's possible to go ahead with killing, or brutality;
As an order can be obeyed.
Undesirable traits,
Or failed contraception:
The solution is seen by some as extermination,
These innocent, growing and developing people
Then given an aborted destination.
If these Human Beings are growing within the womb (or without)
Why must so many die?
Must these people be reduced
To being only a number-
Just one dead amongst many?
(We become desensitized.
We become resensitized.
We become desensitized.
See Saw Margery Daw...)
It is ADOPTION
Which is the answer
To the unborn deemed unwanted:
If parents cannot keep or love their child
By others they’ll be wanted.
Through time there have been different camps,
Today we've pro- choice
And pro- life:
The former allows a man to
Get away with murder
And be disrespectful of his girlfriend or his wife.
Life brings forth boysÂ
And brings forth girls,
Men and women:
That’s how the seed is sown
And how will future generations be treated?
The Past hints; the Present bodes.
Are some Beings seen as undesirable;
Those seen as subhuman, gay, disabled,
Those too young even
To be clothed in pyjamas?
Are some people persuaded ofÂ
The same ethics through time:
Justifying termination as the answer?
***
TODAY adoption is the answer.
Compassion helps as well.
COMPASSION, respect, love and support:
Towards BOTH a mother
And her unborn baby...
Love both.
They did not- and do not-
Need to die.
Perhaps one day
"Never again?"

A pertinent and thought provoking piece, especially in today's world where the cause of life and the role of humankind is becoming increasingly marginalised and comodified.
