Unmarked graves

Unmarked graves

Our village has a little church,
with a grave yard at the bottom,
with a couple of wooden crosses,
which have long since been forgotten.

the shrubs have hidden them from view,
and the grass is overgrown,
a scattering of unmarked graves,
with their inhabitants unknown.

maybe ''twas a simple country boy,
who set out on a heroic endeavour,
or a fearsome pirate,
and his chest of glittering treasure.

maybe its two star crossed lovers,
like romeo and Juliet,
or another tragic story,
filled with love, loss and regret.

maybe it's a vicious highway man,
who died within his jail,
or a valiant hero,
with an equally valient tale.

maybe it's a jewel thief,
still hiding with his plunder,
but either way I'd like to know,
just who lies six feet under.
