Unsinkable

To call yourself unsinkable is to live in defiance of your own weight
Boats are made of steel and wood. They would sink in a second without the workings and choices of men
Knotted hands knot bands to hold ourselves tight together
Tar lines the edges of your wooden beams
And lines the smokers lung
It's almost the same thing
A painful stinking solvent
To handle problems you can't solve
Β
To say that you will always float carries with it the understanding that that it is not easy to do
A ship, little more than a buoyant bowl often gets filled with water in stormy seas
Everyone knows that but
How hard it can be to explain
All this water
In the balmy breeze and gentle tides
Β
to be unsinkable is not to never have the waves over your head
It is to Bob back up from darkest depths
Β
To Crest the surface tension and fight to remain above it
Even when you wonder what sits on the floor
Of that great deep ocean
