Verkrag

The lights were slowly fading out as the sounds consumed me. I could feel a faint pounding, as if the world around me was beating me down like a drum. Slowly the noises were becoming slurs of concern and the lights changed to red and blue.

I tried to run
feeling dried blood in my nails
and sweat on my cheeks
i felt the hard floor as a rolled over
it hit me
screaming to leave or to wake up
hands gather my wits and throw them back at me
I roll over into a pile of leaves
just past the highway I can see a deer

it’s eyes glowing so bright I could only assume it knew what happened
I ran again
stumbling over into a pile of wet thick salt
pouring from out of me I try to grasp what was happening

I trip again
I’m in my house standing in front of a figure who appears to be my father
waves of emotions fill his face before he turn into nothing but stone
I run to try to move him but he’s frozen

I push the stone and it falls into several of pieces
the shattered parts look like different timelines all telling me
“don’t go to that party with that boy”
“he is not worth it”
I stumble to pick up the pieces and here I am two years later

impure and unsure of what he did
Maybe the deer in front of those headlights knows
