Visions Of Beauty

Visions Of Beauty

I gazed at the Mona Lisa, Da Vinci's masterpiece,
he carried her around for ten years, wonders never cease,
the sardonic smile returned your look, mockingly,
in the knowledge that no one's lovelier than me.

He sneered at Michaelangeo but surely sour grapes,
when you see the 'David,' everyone just stands and gapes,
the Cistine Chapel fires your imagination, craning your neck,
so many biblical figures, he said: 'What the heck?'

As you walked towards the 'David, unfinished sculptures by LDV,
until a burst of sunlight relegated them to obscurity,
the Pieta (mother and child) in St. Peters, nudged him to second,
even though 'The Last Supper,' was like waving a magic wand.

These two great men left us with a wonderful legacy,
and none of us will ever be able to match their mystery.
