Warriors

Warriors

One word, two syllables, it carries the greatest of fears
A word known over the world, we’ve been battling it for years
It’s worse than the devil, as you can’t see it there
It sneaks in without you knowing, life can be so unfare

So many lost who battled this invisible crime
Against their bodies it fought, shortening their precious time
Forever echoing in your head is that one frightening word
When giving the news the battlers pray and hope their voice is heard

In a crowded room you can see their face, holding it together
You stare at them, the look in their eye, you just want to hold them forever
What’s the right words, or say nothing at all, just sit a little while
Watching a comedy, making them laugh,  and see the break of a smile

Hold their hand at night, and stroke their head, telling tales from the past
Every laugh and twinkle in their eyes, you wish this night would last
You watch them sleep and ease the pain with a pillow fluffed up
Early hours you hear a whisper, hey Dom do ya fancy a cup?

Watching the sunrise with a cup of tea wandering is this the day
They told us any day now but what does that mean,  we just wished she’d be okay

Keep battling warriors
