Wasted Words

Wasted Words

“I love you,” he says
as his gaze turns away.
“I need you,” he says
and goes on his way.
“What a great meal,” he says
without taking a bite
“How was your day?”, he asks
with your tears in plain sight.
“Such a beautiful day,” he says
but avoids holding you close.
“I’m watching TV,” he says
when you need him the most.
“What’s for dinner?” he asks
and “Can you do me a favor?”
as your hope slowly dies
and your love starts to waver.
The words are hollow
even annoy a bit
when their impact is nill
and the phrases don’t fit.
No words would be better,
replaced with a touch
a kiss, a hug, a smile...
or something of the such.
Empty words mean nothing
and invade mental space
fill up her arms
to take up their place

Hey JACKI. !!......Love the way you used dialogue within the context here......REALLY helps to drive your point home regarding relationships decaying times....... of course..... like all things in life........ everything is constantly changing....... maybe one day....... he'll wake up and read one of your poems...... and then remember just how beautiful you are........ for this would not have been written if Love were not a part of the equation....... it's a loving write...... it's a sad write.........it's a beautiful piece of poetic self expression........ALL STARS!!...... well done sweet poetess!!....... LOVE and ROCKETS!!.......T xo.  ?☀✴✳

Thanks so much Tony!  I've read some of your talent-laden work so it's an honor that you enjoyed this piece.  Fortunately my marriage is nothing like this. :)  Feel for people in these situations when there's so much more!
