We Can't Do What We Used To Do

We Can't Do What We Used To Do

Do you remember we climbed mountains, skydiving,
now we must be careful what any adventure brings;
although grannies can be seen descending from the sky,
and oldies making love as tho' they didn't have to try.

I look young, they ask me: 'What's the secret?' I tell them -
sex and cold water in that order, they didn't ask again;
the first flush of youth, someone opened a starting gate,
to try everything was paramount, we just couldn't wait.

I visited a friend in hospital, he was so full of great life,
but at twenty six, he was suddenly cut down by a knife;
do it all, last chance, you must go to the moon mon ami,
you may find that was exactly where you wanted to be.

I travelled to exotic climes searching for a new dawn,
it was ironic that I should stop near to where I was born.
