Wells Next To The Sea

I have been walking in another painting.
A place of gentle escape.
A place to dream and hope.
A seascape, a tidal estuary with boats.
A place of waiting.
Sails furled, hibernating
adventures passively awaiting
the sea's return.
Born by the sea, I know that sky.
I know that with the eye relaxed
sand spits turn to clouds.
I can almost smell the sea,
almost hear her sigh.
Dreaming of the pea-green boat.
The one leaning to her side.
So eager for the sea's return.
So hungry for the tide.
I have been walking in this painting.
It lives now in my mind.

On my doorstep here in Norfolk and yet I have never been !
Nice piece of work Mr C
Hi Kieran,
The painter, Jan Gaska, was talking part in an open plein air competition at Wells next to the sea and he nearly didn't make it. He's a lovely old mate but he's crap at navigation, he got lost and was in Leicestershire at one point. Finally made it in the afternoon in time for low tide. I think that worked out well.
Cheers mate,
Nigel
It's a lovely painting ! I love the sea and live just a 10 min walk from the seafront so often walk there early morning or at sunset..I get a lot of inspiration there- especially when the weather is inclement and there are lots of brooding clouds!Love this piece Nigel - you and the painting have created a lovely image of the sea in my mind..Thank you xx
Lodigiana I'm really pleased you like this, I love it. Jan painted it as part of a competition so it's not available for sale yet but as soon as it is I think I have to have it. I best start saving.
We left the sea when I was five and fifty years later I still miss her.
Thanks again,
Nigel
I vaguely remember visiting Wells next to the sea on a primary school day trip some 24 years ago!
Your poem brought back some wonderful memories...
It is a beautiful poem Nigel, a piece of art within itself.

Thank you Lizzie,
So glad I have brought back some memories. The painting brought things back to me. That's why I just bought it.
Thank you for the massive compliment and the pin.

Wells.next.the Sea, used to stay on the caravan site in the pine woods, boating lake, my dog got washed out to sea and brought back by the life boat...I was there when the tanker got lodged in the esturary, think I was 14...cut of denim jeans and cheese shirts..your poem brought that time back to me...I have a strange memory of an inland ighthouse..was it here at all.....good work Nigel
Thank you so much Pauline,
You make me very proud that my poem can bring back such wonderful and vivid memories. I love the thought of the stranded tanker giant and the dog in peril then saved. Just more strands to invest in the painting.
I have bought the painting but I've gone and done that bloke thing. I really couldn't justify buying it for myself but it's my mum's birthday in November so I've bought it for her. That means it lives on my friends wall 'till then.
I'm not good at delayed gratification so I will be popping round for a lot of cups of tea.
Thank you for the pin.
