When I Was Young

As I look back on this voyage, that I’ve traveled o’er my life;
My youth was filled with frivolousness, and I never worried, or had strife!
Who thought about tomorrows, when todays were so much fun?
We were young, and brash, and confident, for our lives had just begun!
Then there came the mid years, occasionally, the boat would tip;
But you’d right it very quickly, and return to egos’ trip!
One day you’d find a strange hair, but you’d pluck it right away;
For you were way too young to worry, about ever turning grey!
Then all at once you turned fifty, still not so bad, in years;
You had a great big party, where all toasted you with “cheers”!
You still lived for the moment, so many years ahead;
Still young enough to boogie, and tomorrows, not to dread!
Then one day you wake up and you realize, your “senior years” are here;
You look into the mirror, and begin to have some fear!
You used to read the “Front Page” first, but now it’s the “Obituary’s”;
For you want to make sure that not within them, your picture do you see!
