Where I Hang My Hat

Down by the riverside, in the marshy swamp
Caught my biggest fish ever, a fortyfive pounder
Swallowed the bait, hook, line and sinker, with a big fat chomp
It pulled and it tugged, flipped and splashed, a real whopper
Down on the Louisiana Bayou, is where I hang my hat
Catfish galore and a deep grease frying pan with buttery fat
Can't wait to sit under the umbrella, drink an ice cold lemonade, eating fried hushpuppies and that
Mosquitos will be swarming but the repellant, we'll be spraying
A family gathering, with food, drink, laughter and singing
Down by the Bayou, we will eat hardy, have a real party
Uncle Joe will tell his stories, all will be laughing, almost crying
Until the wee hours of the night, when the crawfish in the pot are steaming
My Uncle Buck will be snoring, the fishing poles will be bending, another big cat
While the bullfrogs are calling, gators will be quietly streaming
Down by the riverside, where I got my big catch
The old Louisiana Bayou, has taken care of me and mine, no place I'd rather be
Can't wait for another boat trip next summer, where I'll hang my heart and my hat
