While I Slept

While I slept a dreamtime took my hand,
a slumber fest had sent me into an Egyptian desert land.
My eyes were closed in fiction as my journey settled in,
it had taken me on the wings of night to another origin.
I soaked the warmth of climate bathing in the River Nile,
its essence purified me straight into its ancient style.
I was captivated in a world that I had never known,
caressed a sun baked temple made from water, sand and stone.
As I walked within the pyramids where Kings and Queens reside,
there were Mummies wrapped in layers of cloth that had me mystified.
While I strayed this distant land of old, a haunting settled in,
was touched by Cleopatra placing jewels against my skin.
I'd been sent into a moment that was more than just divine,
grasped the hand of an ancient world back through the sands of time.
