Wicked Grin
Silver must always cross her palm
If her predictions do deem true
with her gracious air of calm
She's predicting something new.
Summoning up the spirit worldΒ
The firelight gets the flickers
Across the room, she is hurled
And you almost pee your knickersΒ
Coldness creeps into the room,
Hairs raise behind your neck.
The clatter of the falling broom,
Makes you scream "oh heck"
She leans upon the cauldron warm
could she be possessed?
Her face it looks completely torn
As she reveals your ghoulish quest.
To knock upon all household doors
You must scare all those within
If they don't recognise her cause
curse them with your wicked grin
If they hold out a present
Wish blessings upon their house
But if at the door they do resent
Infest their homes with louse.
Knock on the next, one, two, three
Or will they hear the bell?
A ghostly mask is what they'll see
With a ghoulish tale to tellΒ
Bring me all treats, that you receiveΒ
Then she will bid you adieu.Β
If not, all future children will retrieveΒ
The gifts that don't belong to you

cool beans Lorna love the artistry here!
Ahh thanks Lisa xxx
A perfect poem for old and young at Halloween my friend.
Succeeds admirably in getting that elusive right balance.
Beautiful rhyming adhered to a poetic story that moves at a fair lick and so smoothly accomplished.
Apologies for being a tad late here for the Halloween party.
Thanks Lorna for writing something special only you know how :) xx
Thanks Shaun, I love a bit of Halloween! When I was young, it was turnip/Swede carvedΒ with a candle inside...a bin liner with head and arms cut out and a witches hat
we played "dookie apple" and had the best of times....its a tad more elaborate these days but my childhood memories made me love it and I hope my kids can look back and feel the same

Lorna, I'm with you on a swede with a candle in it, yeah good memories there of Halloween with kids/witchiepoo's knocking doors.
And you say 'dookie apples' and played that as a kid, but I say 'absolute bloody torture beyond belief' was doing well with a mini orchard gathered by using my teeth as pincers on any stem.
Then my dad cut the stems off each Granny Smith and Cox's apple.
Real tricky from that moment on
That was the closest to waterboarding I've ever been!
And yes Halloween today is more elaborate but the good old days never thankfully are destined to ever fade and are priceless.
Good fun times.
Shaun xx
Yep, and all the snotty germs off other kids... Oh my gosh!!. I dont think I'd allow my two to play dookie apple/waterboarding hahahaha
generation X....really was a bit torturousΒ
but fun thoughΒ
