ONV Kurup is a living legend, winner of 43rd Jnanpith award. Bhoomikkoru charamageetham is dirge for mother earth.

In Malayalam poem Bhoomikkoru charamageetham, poet describes that human beings should be greatfull to mother earth for nurturing them.

ONV points out that human beings are not affectionate to mother earth. He describes that mother earth have fed the human beings with her own milk by removing her greenery dress. Even after drinking her milk humans were not able to quench their thirst and they started to suckle her blood too.

Oh my mother earth, for your near death,
I am singing this poem “may your soul rest in peace.”
This song is by hearted, for dirge in advance

No one will remain to shed tears
for you and for me tomorrow
when the death’s black
venomous flower blossoms,
in its shadow your face shall start to freeze dead.
So I have written this dirge
by heart in advance for you,
Oh my mother earth, for your near death,

 Unaware that his lover is his mother
From an old fairy tale called “Yuvanatarukan”
Children of the lady –Vasutha, thus create a new history
These children strip Vasutha’s clothes too
and sell them in market for their drink
Sharp axe of the cruel paramour still continues its play
Blazing eyes of sun..
showered fire and danced with fury
Clouds searching for drinking water
Autumn searching for cool climate
Spring searching for a little flower
Rivers searching for water stream
Nature loses its balance
And Life Cycle freezes

LATE PROF. O.N.V KURUP

Ottaplakkal Neelakandan Velu Kurup (27 May 1931 – 13 February 2016), popularly known as O. N. V. Kurup or simply O. N. V., was a renowned Malayalam poet and lyricist from Kerala, India, who won Jnanpith Award , the highest literary award in India for the year 2007.

O. N. V. Kurup is also a lyricist in the Malayalam movie field, He has penned a lot of lyrics for dramas and TV serials also. He received the awards Padma Shri in 1998 and Padma Vibhushan Padma Vibhushan  in 2011, the fourth and second highest civilian honours from the Government of India. In 2007 he was bestowed an Honorary Doctorate by University of Kerala, Trivandrum University of . O. N. V. is known for his leftist leaning.

 He was the Left Democratic Front Left Democratic  (LDF) candidate in the Thrivanathouram constituency for the Lok Sabha elections in 1989. He died on 13 February 2016 due to age-related ailments.
