Without Compass

Without Compass

From every breaking day, the wind guides us to the next

Our native heritage of the powerful drums and dance in our heads

The waters of our land they bring us refreshed, cool and quench

Cleanse our bodies and our minds for the next journey into our lands

Our hands strong, our feet like pillars they hold us up, our horses a gift

Cherokee nation empowered by the light of the sun and the moon of the night

The wind moves us without compass to a safe haven from the storm

With the wolf by our side, it howls in our honor, protects why we exist

We love, we give life for our people we give respect, our pride is our dream

With the wind in our ear, we listen to our native country where we lay our spear

Without fear, the winters cold bring us close together in the heat of love

Our souls never leave through the trees, you hear the sound, of the hawk and the deer

As they follow in their tracks, we find a new home, a new land, no more we fear

May the eagle fly above us, guide us through the storm, while the world around us

Be coward or scorn, be brave like the native you were born, my mind at ease no longer the hunt

But the silence and the solitude of the peacepipe we shared not so long ago we let toil

The wind empowers us to believe in ourselves, be free from the dreamcatcher

Our love and blood cut so deep, no other can spoil, where no others can heal, our purist medicine

Let the waters we follow, and the moon with the wind empower us, let it move us

To the indians that we are, free in love until the end, we drape the bodies

Of those who pass we mourn, then move on, we move on with the wind

Move us without compass to the valleys we explore for the Cherokee Nation will never come to end

The feelings are mutual Nancy,

It is sad that in some cases such as this, it appears that time has no bearing or stronghold nor plays any significant role in the healing process are towards the pain and mortal wounds they suffered, through the greed and retributional actions of others..Well presented piece…

Warmest regards,
Jim
