Winter Lake

When the snow starts to gently fall to the ground
And the the trees branches have been stripped bare
It gets really quiet
I live in a house by the lake
In a small town
Where even in the summer we have silent moments
During these moments I always hear the lakes waves
The crash against the shoreline
And erode our rock walls away
To me this is a metaphor for our mind
The trees are our schedules
And when our schedules are empty
We have nothing to do but think
And think
And think
And think
Our thoughts are like the waves crashing against our rock walls we built
Slowly breaking us down
Of course it’s not always like this
During the summer tourists come and make noise
But we can still hear the waves if we focus
The waves are like our thoughts
Still going until the entire lake freezes over
The lake I live by never freezes over completely
And our minds don't ever stop thinking
The waves will keep crashing till the world ends
And our thoughts will keep coming…
Until death.
