Within a Wintry Wood
Whose home is this that sits aloneβ
in forestβmade of wood and stone?
Perhaps a fire roars within
so I can warm my bones again.
Β
Β
Β No woodsmoke seen while standing here,
as bone-bare branches brush quite near.
Ice bites my cheek, a frosty kiss
on such a frigid night as this.
Β
Β
I glance behind, the way Iβd come.
My body chillsβmy mind goes numb.
My footprints are no longer there,
wiped out by snow and frigid air.
Β
Β
Quite unprepared for whatβs in store,
I opened wide the heavy door.
A sight, I did not want to seeβ
his dead-glazed eyes glared back at me.
Β
Β
Thus, here inside the dark and gloom
within this quiet, empty room.
Sheer horror grabs my mindβit warps,
for all I see...my frozen corpse.

Amazing so beautiful. It amazes me that other's don't appreciate the beauty in the darkened void
I know, right?
One is only able to see the twinkling of stars when night is has reached its darkest hour.
That's always been my mantra.
Thanks again, Lisa.

Hello Dean...
Very mysterious write!
I never really thought about an abandoned house that's in the middle of nowhere where there might be a corpse inside and no visitors at all to see if everyone is alright...
You must have been shocked to see yourself that way, I was very surprised by the ending indeed!
Great write!
Thank you for sharing...
Hugs...
