The Woman With No Wine

The ballroom was laid out in silver and gold
The candles glowed and threw light across the faces
Of all the beautiful people in beautiful clothing and jewels
WhereĀ entanglements tangoed in beautiful hues
And, alone in the corner, a woman that knew
She trembled for a reason....
It seemed she'd been coming for a very long time
And eagerly she'd wait for her very first dance
And each time she'd missed her chance at romance
It wasn't because, she was not worthy
It was because she was not, in a hurry......
But this night a man approached her and asked
If, by chance, he might offer her a glass
A cabernet perhaps, it's a very fine wine
She lowered her eyes and politely declined
Then she thought to herself it had been such a long time
In fact, she recalled, she had never tasted wine.......
Well, it spread through the room, that she was refined
For she would not stoop to taste his red wine
And so they all danced and had a good time
Except for the woman who remained quite refined
And at the end of the night she went home........alone
And that night she dreamed that she was a queen
And all of her court were her friends
And when they asked if she had a good time
She rose to her feet and proudly said
Of course, I'm the woman with no wine
She puzzled and pondered about this strange dream
Oh my, oh my, what could it all mean
Till finally it came to her mind
That it was not the wine
It was just that it was not the right time.........
