Words of Silence

Words of Silence

From the nineteenth century to the present, men and women, who have mental disorders have been unseen

Maybe, an insane asylum, maybe in a rapped robe, maybe in a locked chamber, maybe in a Utica crib, or maybe on an empty street

The ebony of silence, the ghastly truth, of the unknown, the mind that escapes, into delirium, panic, confusion, violence, and death

Is it the mercury from the felt hat, wore by the mad Hatter, or the torture, in a dark room, where chains bind, as fingers tap

The words will never know, the dementia, takes hold, the soul is lost, though the body wants to escape, running from pain

Afraid of the world, afraid to speak out, afraid to show your face, not knowing time, or place, people think you are a disgrace

The innocent, the victims of depression, anxiety, not understanding, undiagnosed, lost in space, trying to erase, the blame

Suicide, it hides, it attacks when no one is around, trying to make a last phone call, and no one answers, just a recording tape

Medicine can do many things, it can ease the wounds, inside the mind, it can cheer up the most down and out, but some never reach

The point of no return, it is a silent world, it is the one thing, I hope we catch, before it is too late, to find a way, to save the world, of mental illness, and the blinded sheets on a lonely bed, now an empty place

Thanks Cherie, and thanks for sharing the information about your sister, I worked in mental health, and I have met a great deal of wonderful people, with unfortunate things, I covered a hotline intervention center for six years, and some of the phone calls were heart breaking. Blessings to you and your sister.

Always,

Nancy

Hi Nancy, great write. So many things about mental health are taken for granted and sadly we only notice when it takes a piece of our loved ones. Thanks for sharing. Warm regards.
