Poem -

This Year, It'll Be Better

31st December 2012.
The magic pills and magic juice
Were mixed in her stomach.
She hoped this was the cure
To slip away silently
Into the night.

That didn't happen.

She woke up New Year's Day 2013
Squirming in pain.
The special cocktail wasn't enough
To drown her sorrows eternally.
So she took it as a sign
That heaven didn't want her yet.

She still felt sadness every day.
She still felt numb.
She still felt hopeless.
But she fought every day
To keep her New Year's Resolution:
'Stay alive another year,
You might just thank yourself.'

Come June the girl felt happier,
The light in her eyes had returned,
She even found someone
Who loved her unconditionally.
Despite the scars on her body
And her mind.

31st December 2013.
And as the bells rang out
To mark the end of another year,
She kissed her lover in gratitude
For helping her through.
She cried and thanked everyone
Who meant anything to her.
For this time last year,
She might have been dead.

"I love you, Thank you for everything."
