The Year Of Love

Your love was like a knife to my heart.Â
It was as sudden as the flowers blooming in spring,Â
As sharp and vivid as the color of the new leaves.Â
Making my heart skip several beats.Â
We were like two teenagers falling in love in the summer heat.Â
Getting drunk off cheap wine,Â
Falling deep.Â
Your eyes lit up like fireflies in a June night.Â
Then our summer love slipped into fall.Â
All the signs were there that the flowers were dying.Â
Although it happened slow,Â
It died like a leaf drifting down low.Â
Once it died there was no more denying.Â
The sheets on my bed were as cold as the snow.Â
Even though my eyes were dry,Â
My life was as barren and gray as a winter day.

Really enjoyed this one Maxine, some evocative emotion  created by some great lines.  Loved these
