You Blame
As I inhale the toxins of this forbidden fruit
thousands of chemicals demand entry with muddy feet
burning their lasting puncture wounds
Looks of judgment are nearby as I exhale
bringing a silent war between
the smoker and the non-smoker
Deeply breathing in each sweet charcoaled dream
Each poisonous lungful takes away
years spent polluting the air and my youthful body
Dangerously craving more of those
sardine-packed, pocket-sized cardboard boxes
Stain my breath with your cancerous army
The monsters chewing away at my cells
What kind of twisted logic alters my mind to find delight?
This self-destruction was found to be voluntary; A senseless act
But once I perish, to whom shall I blame?

it does seem ironic and short sighted that many find delight in things proven to be harmful, are we but minions of a lesser god, or defiant to the laws of reason?  Who knows, Perri, but I'll tell you what, this is a very good poem, brilliantly constructed with thoughtfulness and poetic shine, a terrific post, poet   Â
