You were there

You were there when I came around the corner
A blonde man with a beard
And though the years we were together were cruel
Twenty five years later
I still dream of you
If I could somehow catch the calm
At the center of the storm
Perhaps my pain would lessen
And you could go back to the past
Where there is a broken marriage
Between wrong and wrong
I knew you would make me or break me
But does it have to last so endless
In my sleep we never speakĀ
But there is an ocean
And all the creatures of the deep
Still long for you
And wait for your approval
The tooth is rottenĀ
It needs removal
Yet still I work itĀ
With my tongue
