Your Best Time

Your Best Time

'You were down there for so long weren't you -
what did you enjoy most: the sunshine or the girls?'
'It wasn't like that - I wrote many good plays,
they were mine, I don't care what anyone says.'

'Didn't you have a holiday, sit on an island somewhere,
under an umbrella, drive a speedboat in the waves?'
'It wasn't like that - Anne Hathaway gave me an earful,
I spent most of the time trying to make her cheerful.'

'Didn't you walk along the River Avon dreaming,
instead of coming up with that old-fashioned scheming?'
'It wasn't like that, I did my work, what I was good at,
I don't need a heavenly cherub to ask me where I hung my hat.'

'Very well, you seem to be unrepentant, rather ungrateful,
after all the gifts we gave you, placement may be fateful.'
