Your Blade

Your Blade

You were so nice at first
Not a thing you didn’t like
But slowly
Over time
You stopped liking certain parts
You handed me your blade
You sharpened it on my insecurities
Telling me the things you hated
Begging me to remove them
And I got to work
I cut
I sliced and diced
I removed everything you hated
Until I was no longer myself
I no longer recognized who I am
And you kept asking
And I kept removing
Like a surgeon
Cutting the flesh from my own bone
Until I fit your mold
And when I finally fit it
Covered in blood and sweat
Your blade trembling in my hand
You left
You found someone pre-cut
Who already fit
Someone you said was better
And now I am left here
On my knees, tears flooding my bloodied face
Gathering all my pieces
Figuring out where they go
Trying to frankenstein myself
Back to who I was
Before I mutilated myself
All for you
