Zoned Out

High on life

I've never needed drugs

for my eyes to glaze over

and my mind to wander

I've never needed trips

to get into a trance

nor a glass of red

to hit the disco floor

and dance

I've never needed a beer

to start up conversation

I cannot understand

why the frustration

No need for me to pop a pill

to just kick back and chill

If this isn't trendy

that doesn't phase me

If it isn't cool

then I'll stay hot

If I'm not normal

that be fine

Y'all can keep your meth and pot

I refuse to inject or snort a hit

when I honestly truly

don't need it

to have a good time

If only everybody were so well balanced but unfortunately life events such as child abuse, domestic abuse, homelessness and untreated mental health play a big part in addiction...nice write ?

I know. It was more an attack on peer pressure contexts. As for your list, I have experienced abuse as a child, DV, hunger, homelessness, depression the works... still didn't turn to addictions (although I tried stuff). I value freedom more than anything and people trying to force me into their own captivity after I've already suffered enough are the last kind of "friends" I need in my life. (which was more to the point)
