Quarantine madness

" I'm buzzing," stacey messaged back as she gulped down another hit of coffee. She had been practically drowning in it since the pandemic began. Maybe she should have joined her friend Helena for a sunbathing frenzy down at the beach. At least they could mourn their social distancing together, even if it meant they would have to practically yell at each other over the sound of the waves. Stacey became impatient as she waited for her friend to reply, maybe she should have just downed a few alcoholic beverages and slept the whole afternoon. She was never one to tap her fingers in the wait for a text. The boredom was becoming to much to bear.
In the meantime, Helena had found the perfect sunbathing spot where she was confident she wouldn't be discovered. She had wanted to resort to some sort of decency by giving herself a natural tan that would take the focus off the faded colour that was slowly vanishing from her hair. She was always one for instant selfies, but lately her instagram pictures were becoming far to few. She felt horrid and was sure she would receive a stream of unwelcome comments if she dared post any sight of herself. She held up her hand and viewed the mangled nail polish that was half chewed off. They were definitely in the throes of a non manicured meltdown. She let out a sigh, ignoring the hundreds of messages that Stacey was sending. She knew in that moment she needed to relax, but in doing so chanced her phone going into a freeze. Pushing the thought to the back of her mind, she closed her eyes and tried to remember what freedom felt like.
