The Doctor Was Once Called Doctor Who

Even though I loathe the new Doctor Who TV show, I loved the classic Doctor Who. The classic Doctor Who began in November of 1963 and ended in December of 1989. It ran for 26 seasons. It was a British TV show. The classic Doctor Who is the longest running sci-fi show in existence.

The show was titled "Doctor Who", but the protagonist was never called "Doctor Who". He was called "The Doctor".  Even though he was called "The Doctor", he was listed in the end credits as "Doctor Who" from 1963-1981. When Peter Davison became The Doctor, they began to list The Doctor as "The Doctor" in the end credits. They continued to list The Doctor in the credits as "The Doctor" until the show ended in 1989.

I've heard that certain fans get upset when people incorrectly refer to "The Doctor" as "Doctor Who". But on one episode, The Doctor was called Doctor Who in the show. This episode was titled "The War Machines". A powerful computer called "Wotan"(Pronounced Votan) called him Doctor Who instead of The Doctor. One or two people in this episode referred to him as Doctor Who as well. William Hartnell was the actor who starred as "The Doctor" at the time. I began watching Doctor Who in 1984 at the age of twelve. It became my favorite TV show.
