The Mourning Light
The crows clamour against the sunrise
And I hear the illusive sound of children
Running off into the distance
Back and forth between the veils of time
And I swear I never meant to be here
Nor do I desire to be again
For the endeavour required to realign
When you and I were already there
The sentiment captured
Yet destined to be forgotten
As we walk the long road nowhere
Seeking memory and purpose
While we live them out in fear
From the abysm of our subconscious
Was the door of penitence
Illumined only for my escape
Where the mourning light
Seeps between the tree of life
As the howling child encounters
A chance to reclaim his innocence
For she still dwells within my eye
Who'll evince at last my true redemption
Who'll kill the inquisitor and all his lies
And in return for you, I will not surrender
Yet I stay behind
The sad one they would say
Who never came to life, ever vicarious
And seldom had I cared for their experience
The road, the nescient pave
For the empirical to wind
As I am a witness, the one who abstains
From the absence of change
The one who lives to learn
But who could never learn to live with time
Where the day crawls to incriminate
And forever takes too long
As I watch the sky to fade
Retrieving shadows from the fall
Pensive though indifferent
And inconspicuous, my fate withheld
As I find nothing left for me
And nowhere else to belong
And I for this world will not suffice
With virtue so seemingly worthless
When the spirit still suffers, and I suffer still
In the wake of the mourning light
