What is Christmas?

What is Christmas?

The moon watched, quite closely, a little brown mouse
Closing the door of his warm little house.
"Where is he going?" Moon wondered aloud.
And all the stars twinkled, each one in the crowd.
"I'm looking for an answer," the mouse simply said
To the moon in the sky  as he struggled ahead,
And the mouse asked the moon, in her silvery glow,
"What is Christmas?"
But the moon didn't know.

The little brown mouse scurried on in great haste,
The night air was cold so onwards he raced
Through frozen grass blades (each sharp as a sword)
That stabbed at his fur and grabbed at his paws.
But little brown mouse was stopped in his tracks
By a large orange fox. And down the fox sat.
So mouse asked the fox, sat there in the snow,
"What is Christmas?"
But the fox didn't know.

A mighty old stag stepped into the sight
Of the mouse and the fox in the pale moonlight.
"Where are you going?" The stag asked the two.
(And all the stars twinkled because they all knew).
"We're looking for an answer," the mouse simply said,
To the stag who wore antlers like a crown on his head.
And mouse asked the stag, in the wintry glow,
"What is Christmas?"
But the stag didn't know.

They eventually came to a donkey's house,
The fox and the stag and the little brown mouse,
And the donkey, bemused, peeked over her door.
She chewed on her hay (and then chewed some more).
"You all look so weary (if I may be so bold)
Pray, do please come in from out of the cold."
Then mouse asked the donkey, as he came in from the snow,
"What is Christmas?
We, none of us know".

"Christmas", said donkey, with a mouthful of hay,
"Is a time full of sparkles and friendship, I'd say."
"No," said an owl sitting up high, "donkey you're wrong.
I fly by the church and say Christmas is song."
"Not sparkles or songs," said a well meaning rat.
"It's lots of good food and papery hats."
The moon watched this scene and she wondered if true—
And all the stars twinkled
Because they all knew.

Absolutely bloody lovely!! Perfect rhyming, adorable characters and a snowy Christmas scene.  Both  innocent and beautiful Tina...I got such a warm christmassy feeling reading this... the kind I used to get as a child because the images this write conveyed took me back to my cosy secure bed full of excitement and magic waiting for my stocking. You are SO well worth the wait my friend. Love it 💞

I am really happy you like it!  I have spent so long trying to write anything that resembled a poem ... and then this popped into my head. I wanted it to read like a story that a child (big or small) would enjoy listening to (or reading).  Thankyou dear Marion xx

I was inspired. Just going to post, although, mine seem to come out not quite as, let's say, classic, as yours.
