Poem -

A call of afar

Do you think gods call us their children?
Do you think gods hear our cries?
Do you think they laugh when we stumble or tell jokes?
Do you think they cry when our loved ones die?

You’d like to answer yes
But deep down you’ll never know
For up in the heavens or down in hell
The devils and angels never speak

And if they do
What must they say?
How belittling and rude or cruel are these rulers?
How honest and kind are their hearts?

You’d like to answer that they are kind
But deep down you’ll never know
For up in the heavens and down in hell
The angels and devils never speak

For if they did
Why wouldn’t they want us to hear?
And if we did listen
And if we heard them speak
What would you want to hear?

A kind warm voice like a mother
The stern voice of a dictator
The impartiality of a judge
The innocence of a child

You’d answer with I do not know
And deep down you’ll never know
For up in the heavens and down in hell
We are grateful that they never speak.
