A Lie

A lie is a misconception
A deception often small
A slowly grown mistake
Much bigger overall
A small white lie is easily lost
At least that’s what they always say
But a small white lie can cost a lot
And more and more each day
A lie is not something treasured
Not something to brag about
Not something to wish for more of
Day or night, no doubt
Instead a lie is hateful
An act of terrible trust
A couple of words
A small innocent smile
A lie, dislike, distrust
A lie is often forgettable
Until it grows too big
Then it overpowers, and overcomes
Any words to try to forgive
A lie can easily break a heart
A child’s, a man's, a girl's
A lie can easily tear apart
A family, a life, a world
So when someone says
Please do not lie
Throw caution to the wind
And watch your tongue
And mind your words
So it doesn’t begin again

it.s.ruby, I like how you wrote this; repeating the poem; it's as if you want the reader to remember the words and take them to heart, or even memorize them, to appreciate the importance of not lying and the damage that lies can cost, that is certainly clever and echoes in the mind...hey, this is a very unusual subject to write a poem on, I commend you for that, and it is written well, as well....truly, I look forward to reading you again....a very cool write indeed, and welcome to the siteÂ
Thankyou very much
A lie, whether small or big has the potential to rock the soul to it's very foundations, a good subject to write about and a very good message. Thank you for sharing this wonderful poetry, Ruby. Enjoyed bvery much xo :-)
