A piece of pie

I never saw a semblance
Of myself in what I dreamt,
I never saw a piece of that fine pie.
---
I never thought the essence
Of what I knew I could give
Could ever find its way toward the sky.
---
But find its way it did
And stay there it surely would,
The lightness in the dark reflects the night.
---
And find its way it would,
A home, prior to, it hadn’t found.
Its firm surrounds would ward away the fight.
---
It hadn’t thought of everything,
It hadn’t thought of me.
A surprise to all and sundry I saw there.
---
It hadn’t thought my time was up,
It hadn’t dreamt of me.
To the gate it came, and with blue eyes it stared.
---
“Go home,” it said, “it’s not your time,
You have so much to do –
They can await your ride toward the sky.”
---
“Go home,” it said, “I’m warning you
They need you down there now.
Your character’s of use to them –
It’s serendipitous. Away, dear sir
And leave this place of mine.”
