A spaceman's ode to the sun

A spaceman's ode to the sun

Each day I wait as the cracks get bigger,
watch as they spread through the glass like water.
I know that when this fragile shield shatters,
I will be consumed by fire,
burned by your embrace.
And yet, I long to touch you,
for your radiance is gravity,
pulling me into your fiery orbit.
I wait for that day to come while I remain trapped in this lonely vessel,
A million stars my only companions in this desolate wasteland,
prisoner of time, prisoner of mortality,
until you set me free.
And now you are closer than ever,
but still I wait.
