A White Flag
I surrender, I'm undone,
the battle's almost won,
My teams across the field,
But, no more,
for her I yield.
I thought I was winning,
Until I saw her smile,
Forced and pained,
I forgot me for a while.
If I can't win without her hurting,
then take me, I'll take the fall.
It isn't worth winning,
If she hasn't won at all.
I thought We could win together,
Three-legged run across the line.
But I get it, I'll take a hint,
Believe these present signs.
if she doesn't want me,
then away I'll be.
For all I really want,
Is for her to be free.
To choose her path,
Or find it somewhere,
to find her peace,
and with it lose despair,
Let her be hers,
I failed at the line,
one-legged with a rope,
but, hey, It's fine...

A poem from the heart filled with despair and a brilliant display of the power of metaphor and rhyming.
Like always, brilliantly written and felt.
It's a sad funny dark humor poem. I really enjoyed your wordplay.
