Ashtray - 2008

You’re the essence of hate and all things rotten,
Lying on a bar floor in a pool of stale beer,
The physical reminder of a night now forgotten,
The regret of another crap day lying here.
You look dear ashtray, alone and abused,
Waiting to be picked up and cleaned,
But the times are now changing, and you’re clients refused,
All permission to light up in this sociable scene.
God help you dear ashtray, Â Â your days are now numbered,
No more will you be in the heat,
To listen to shit talk and the slurs of the drunkards,
But to hear the night pass with the crones on the street.
Be strong dear old ashtray, this may be not be bad,
It may even be an improvement,
Your days as a confidant were anyways sad,
Now you can live with the other pollutants.
I’ll miss you dear ashtray, don’t you ever forget,
The days of our past smoking glories,
But to sit on a patio and with smog on beset,
Well, that’s definitely another fuckin’ story.
