Autumn

Autumn spices ofÂ
caramel and burned sugar,
mulled wine warms the blood
for the charming chill of night.
The sun upon the glowingÂ
leaves in her great eyes,
the flames of summer burn still
in the dying light.
Scarlet, brown, gold
and yellow fire,
the mountain ash stands chill
exuberant with fruit beside her,
Taunting the stealth and creep
of winter´s raw white tiger,
nostalgia in warmth
the auburn tousling of the trees
through the mist and
the sun´s watercolour fire.
The earthy fragrance of the air
the gentle floating leaves,
her touch the rain
and flowing breeze.
In the fall of light
upon the sky and fields,
her spirit of flowers
death never steals.
Each falling amber leaf
aflame with memories
of the beauty of rebirth,
in the afterglow of the
sun and moon that heal
the fading twilight Earth.

Hello Jim The Lad! I hope you are very well. Wonderful to read your amazing comment. If I do write a book, with a comment like that I would be honoured indeed to have you write the introduction, foreword and acknowledgements! :) The Autumn is stunningly beautiful where I am based so the inspiration and imagery came from that. Thank you so much for your inspiring comment, it really does mean a lot. x
Just a completely beautiful write Tony x

Hello Tony
This is simply a delightful read. You do have a gift for blending words, and forming elegant imagery.Â
"the auburn tousling of the trees

Just stunning. As Jim mentions, you do paint beautifully with words. Your imagery lingers in the readers imagination, like a soothing tonic for the minds eye.Â
A wonderful poemÂ

Hello Gwen, hope you are very well. I wrote this yesterday after a walk in the mountains in southern Spain where I live. Autumn is very beautiful here, so inspirational. Thank you for your lovely comment, it means a lot that you mentioned the imagery as I tried to capture the atmosphere and landscapes I experienced yesterday. After a long hot summer with temperatures reaching 45-47ºC at times I´m glad Autumn has arrived as it really is a soothing tonic for the soul and mind´s eye in the vivid colours that Autumn paints as you also mentioned. Thank you Gwen, I´m off to bathe in the afterglow of your wonderful comment! :) XX
Wow I had not realised you were in Spain Tony, how wonderful that must be and what beautiful scenery you get to indulge in. You definitely captured the imagery here :)Â
