Bachelor Farmer

Cowboy of the corn
Upon a deer of green
He rides the great prairie
Where trees nor people
Are seldom ever seen
...
His friendships are few
In this land of old folks
And his bachelor peers
Daily contacts counted less
Then his callous handsβ fingers
...
He had a sweetheart once
But like all her girlfriends
She had a dream so grand
To become cosmopolitan
So she fled this lonely land
...
Steward of the breadbasket
As keeper of the cornucopia
Heβs bound to his homeland
Where he must stay on forever
To feed Godβs starving children
...
Tiller of the land
A son of the dirt
Will you ever find true love
Before youβre interred?
Or is your lover, Mother Earth?
The above poem is dedicated to the many bachelor farmers that live on the corn-belt.Β Few people know of their plight.Β The shortage of eligible women in this area has resulted in high number of bachelors.Β They live lives of hard work and loneliness.Β The result is a high suicide rate.Β
My parents were both children of the corn-belt so I have a lot of family in Southwestern Minnesota.Β I visit them often.Β Many are bachelor farmers.Β Itβs not unusual to enter a farmers house to find several planning a dayβs work together.Β
Sober, God fearing and hard working, I hope to create awareness of who these bachelor farmers are.Β And maybe it will be cause for some lonely city women to want to meet them.
PS, You'd never know it to see them, but some of these bachelor farmers are rich.

Kimmy your poem brought both adoration and sadness. adoration for the talent you possess and sadness for all the lonely people out there. I lived in a small town in Minnesota and grow up to live in a big city. yes it was sad and lonely in that small town. I feel for all the lonely farmers out there.

Hello Kimmy. Thank you for this look into a world that is far away. My parents were farmers in a different part of the world, but abandoned it for factory work when they started having children. I know that I take for granted that there are folks out there filling my needs with hard work and such devotion. I feel for them, and now thanks to your write, admire them more. Great job, Rebecca
Thank you so much Rebecca, your words are so kind.
Hello Kimmy...
This reminds me of the commercial of farmersonly.com...
City folks just don't get it...
You would make a great spokesperson...
There are many sad and lonely farmers here also...
Small town blues perhaps?
Winters can be quite harsh here also...
Someone once told me that with all the hard workΒ the last thing they want is a whiny woman complaining all the time...
He's still single...
He said maybe in ten years when he's 70 he might be ready...
Great write!Β
Thank you for sharing...
Hugs...

Good points Sparrow.Β Thanks a bunch.
Hi Brother Poet Kimmy,
These "Bachelor Farmers" need sons, to carry on their work from generation to generation. Β Poor woman from around the globe would love to become their wives, and bring their progeny into the world. Forget those grand dreamers. Β Seek you women in faraway lands, who will be your completion. Β Only then, will you plant your own fertile seeds, that will grow into the "Tillers of your homeland".
Peace and Love,
Larry xxx
Thanks Larry,
Mail order brides are definitely a possibility.Β But I think some made in America women could also do the trick.
Thanks for the comment.
