Bars that held me

Bars that held me

I stood so long behind bars
That showed no mercy
I face a penance for a crime
I committed
But not in this time

I dreamt and dreamt of breaking free
Of flying, of soaring in the open sky
But as the rusted bars swung open
I couldn’t will myself to take off from the ground
I didn’t have anywhere to go
No one to turn to
I didn’t know where I belong

Finding a place in this world for me is difficult, I feel that past lives are impeding on my life here, I fear the next life and wonder about reality, it seems to be a common feeling amongst humans, we are trying to find God but I think God is trying to find us. Great write Sarah.

:) Thank you Gerard. this write is based on me thinking i'm not deserving of the life i'm living and thinking i must have done something in my past life to deserve it. But then again I am used to this life, I don't know anything else and then wondering if it's all in my head. Β

I think all of us have felt like this--this sort of displaced feeling--at one time or another in our lives, Sarah.
I know I have!
Excellent poem, very well penned.
