Broken Star

Broken Star

I wished upon the broken star where the lost dreams lay. It whispered to me "you know me and I know you the same."
And then I ran to afraid to accept  what was before me
"I don't know you and you don't know me please go away"

When I turned to see if it still followed me I saw it there
It said to me "please don't run for you know me and I know you just the same"
I shook my head unable to agree
And so I ran again

Soon I ran out of breath and turned to see
The broken star had still followed me
I decided to ask "what is it you want"
And it said to me, not understanding
"But it was you that wished me back
And now you run from me?
Do you take back what you said?"

I shook my head once again
But then I started to understand
I wished upon a broken star
To get my lost dreams back

At that time I still felt afraid but a warm comfort filled me.
This broken star was just my lost dreams awaiting me.
The broken star glowed bright
And started to circle me
I closed my eyes and said goodbye
To the fear that filled me

I felt my lost dreams all around me
as stars in the night
I let them fill my mind again and now I'm finally at ease.

My mind can rest comfortably
And on my own I know I can accomplish the rest
With my lost dreams finally returned to me
I feel the world is just a test
And someday every dream in me
Will at least be passed down, maybe to someone much greater than me

Even in that I could take much pride
Because although I failed to show what I had in mind
At least I stirred a dream into another

I once wished upon a broken star
And it returned my dreams to me
Now I can have a fresh start
And even teach others to see their dreams
I have gained something so very dear to me
